What is Internet of Things ( IoT ) ?

First of all I tell you some examples to understand what is Internet of Things ( IoT ) ?You may know about smart home appliances for example smart bulbs , indoor cameras, etc. which can be remotely controlled from any place of the world. 

Think about a situation, one day you are in hurry to go outside and have forgotten to switch off your smart bulb but you don't have to worry about it because you can easily switch off it from your smartphone or laptop. You are able to switch off due to IoT. So we can define IoT as :-

IoT is the network of physical devices that have sensors, software and other technological components for the purpose of connecting these devices with a common platform known as IoT platform .

What is Internet of Things ( Technical Definition )

" The internet of things, or IoT, is a system of interrelated computing devices, mechanical and digital machines, objects, animals or people that are provided with unique identifiers (UIDs) and the ability to transfer data over a network without requiring human-to-human or human-to-computer interaction."

How do IoT devices work?

In the above situation the bulb can be controlled through an app but how does it work ?

I devices contain sensors, communication hardwares, software and processors to collect, act on data and send data collected by the sensors via machine learning ( means by collecting data from their surroundings just like human beings).

Just like human beings IoT devices can learn from their surroundings and adjust itself accordingly which makes IoT devices smart.

Advantages of IoT 

1》Eases Communication 

With the help of IoT electronic devices are stay connected and provide better communication. For example, we can do video call with each other because of the IoT.

2》Making Life Comfortable 

IoT can turn lights on and off whenever you enter and exit your rooms. Also suppose that you wake up at six o' clock in the morning and you instruct an IoT device for example coffee maker about it then it starts making coffee at six o'clock without waking you up. 

3》Access Information

 We can easily access information from any part of the world in real time without physically present because of IoT.

Disadvantages of IoT 

There are many advantages of IoT but no technology is free from glitches. So IoT also has some disadvantages as :-

1》Privacy

IoT devices need data from your surroundings so that it works well, therefore you need to see the data is being encrypted or not.

2》Reduce Employment 

You know that IoT is expanding day by day to all over the world and this may result in replacement of unskilled professionals because of the popularity of robotics. 

3》Over Dependence 

IoT has impacted the lives of almost every person in the world. We all know that IoT has many advantages but we see that glitches occur constantly in technology, no electronic device is fee from fault. So depending on IoT devices on a daily basis create trouble if IoT infrastructure collapses.
